Management and storage considerations for VDI

Cover Image

In order to dig into how to design a realistic VDI plan, IT professionals need to look at two topics that are important for VDI—management and storage.

Yet why are management and storage are bundled together? While it might seem strange at first, once you look at the two topics you’ll realize that they’re actually very closely related. For example, many people try to make VDI easier to “manage” by designing an environment where lots of users share the same master disk image. Or if they design a VDI environment where each user has his or her own disk image, it will be impossible to manage.

So in reality, the way you design the storage part of your VDI has a direct impact on how you’ll manage your VDI, and conversely the way you design your management plan will affect your VDI storage options.

The third chapter in Brian Madden’s “The VDI Reality” e-book takes a look at two topics that are important for organizations implementing a virtual desktop infrastructure—management and storage.
